Seminar to commemorate the celebration 53 Years of ICAO Membership-Bangladesh

Seminar on: Growth, Achievements, Future Needs and ICAO NGAP–Bangladesh Perspective.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) proudly marks 53 years of service as ICAO Member as the national regulator and facilitator of civil aviation, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a safe, secure, and efficient aviation system in alignment with the standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). To commemorate this event  a seminar on “Growth, Achievements, Future Needs and ICAO NGAP–Bangladesh Perspective” was arranged by Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh on 21 January 2026 at Civil Aviation Academy. The Seminar was inaugurated by Air Cdre Abu Sayeed Mehboob Khan, Member, Operations & Planning of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh signed the Chicago Convention on 22 December 1972 and officially became an ICAO Member State on 21 January 1973. Since then, CAAB has played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s civil aviation landscape by strengthening regulatory oversight, expanding airport infrastructure, modernizing air navigation services, and enhancing aviation safety and security performance. These efforts have significantly contributed to national connectivity, economic development, and global integration.

CAAB the legacy of safe sky, reflects its enduring dedication to aviation safety as the foundation of sustainable growth. Over the decades, CAAB has achieved notable milestones, including major airport development projects, improved compliance with international safety and security benchmarks, and the elevation of the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Academy to ICAO Trainair Plus Gold Membership, symbolizing excellence in aviation training and capacity building.

Key-note speaker Mr. Prasanta Kumar Chakraborty, Director of the Civil Aviation Academy of Bangladesh and ICAO Instructor highlighted the ICAO forecast on global demand for the expanded need of aviation professionals for next twenty years. He underlined the immediate action for the state to attract, recruit and retain civil aviation professionals with appropriate training and human resource development programme. He has pointed out the initiative of ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals which aims to develop skilled, motivated, and globally competitive aviation workforce. He also described the three essential aspirational goals that crystalize the ICAO vision and the ICAO Startegic Plan for 2026 to 2050.

Capt Sajjadul Huq Chief of Training of Biman Bangladesh Airlines presented a glimpse on Airlines fleet expansion plan and readiness of the aviators for the upcoming expansion of fleet and routes.

Mr. Imran Asif, Ph.D the Chief Executive Officer of a private Bangladeshi Airline Air Astra mentioned that the future of aviation depends on the fresh talent underlining the youth as the single biggest driving force behind the sustainability and prosperity of the industry.

The seminar, the first of its kind, set the tone for the industry stakeholders to take up on towards the goal set through the NGAP Strategy by ICAO. The seminar was attended by aviation expertise in Bangladesh specifically senior executives from different airlines, representatives from aviation organizations and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

This seminar served not only as a celebration of CAAB’s historic journey but also as a platform for dialogue, reflection, and forward-looking collaboration. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions and the Q&A session, contributing insights that will help shape the future of civil aviation in Bangladesh.
